GAP Exchange by CIMSA UR

Hello, my cherished CIMSA colleagues throughout the nation!

Surely you have known about Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF), right? Do you know exactly the etiology and the prevention method of DHF? Accordingly, Standing Committee of Research Exchange (SCORE) with Standing Committee of Public Health (SCOPH) from Center of Indonesian Medical Students’ Activities (CIMSA) of University of Riau (UR) held an event to educate the masses on DHF. Patin Village which is located on the Kampar district of Riau was chosen as the venue as the village is an endemic area of DHF. SCORE-SCOPH CIMSA UR wanted to explore the risk factor(s) of DHF in the venue as to increase the awareness toward DHF and its prevention methods. Fortunately, this GAP Exchange is coincidentally overlap with other research projects from UR doctors, thus SCORE incomings can also take part in this GAP Exchange.

The GAP Exchange was done on Tuesday, August 08, 2017 in the Patin Village, XIII Koto Kampar, Kampar, Riau. SCORE-SCOPH CIMSA UR collaborating with KUKERTA UR participated in educating the masses within the village with the help of university teachers from UR. The event started by welcoming speech from project officers, then from local officers of respective standing committee, then by the village leader as the representative of the villagers.

The villagers were divided into nearly equal groups and escorted into different rooms. Pre-test are then given to all of the villagers before the counseling while post-test is given afterward. The pre and post-test was done to measure the affectivity of the lecture as well as an indication if they have learned something new or not.

This event clearly arouses the motivation of the villagers, especially to the mothers, as aside from post-test there are some quizzes with prizes. Those prizes surely lead the villagers by the nose and effectively getting them excited and enthusiastic. At the last part of the event, CIMSA procure a free blood test for the villagers, including a blood pressure test, blood glucose test, and uric acid test. The incomings also participated in the free blood test toward the villagers.

Cheering of admiration and amazement accompany the event until its fruitful end.

See you later on the next GAP Exchange!!
