Looking back on the last Sunday of November, SCORE CIMSA of Universitas Indonesia (UI) and Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) have successfully done the Multicenter Research at the National Monument from 7 to 10 AM. The research purpose was to measure descriptively the awareness, behavior, and knowledge of diabetes in Indonesian population. Having chosen the topic as diabetes, a deadly disease of the general public, this time SCORE has joined hand in hand with SCOPH.
This year, SCOPH has collaborate with Indonesian Ministry of Health to hold a diabetes event campaign as well as health screening test booth on the National Monument. Like an ant in the presence of sugar, SCORE CIMSA UI and UPH seize the opportunity to join in executing the research. As the clock approaching the allocated time, SCORE members held an on-the-spot briefing to once more go over everything and making sure everyone understands their roles. The group then separated to 2 – 3 SCORE members and 1 – 2 SCOPH members in each one. SCORE members will do the research and SCOPH members will accompany while educating the respondent.
Each respondent would have to sign an inform consent consisting all essential research information and his/her agreement on the study. Then, they fill in the questionnaire while being supervised by the SCORE members just in case there are any inquiries. Approximately two hours have passed and although they are drenched in sweat, smile could be seen on the SCORE members since they can gather a satisfactory quantity of respondents. In fact, the journey is far from smooth, there were some horrid obstacles such
as: different understanding due to varying cultural and education background, presence of medical jargon(s), as well as refusal from some people.
All involved parties are observed to be very enthusiastic. The respondents were glad to assist the research, while getting educated on diabetes as well as enjoying the distributed free snacks. Some of them even stop their physical exercise with their family to corroborate the research, how amusing. Most of them agreed in currently having a sedentary lifestyle, but they were starting anew by trying to do exercise on weekend.
SCORE and SCOPH members also frequently being asked foundation information of diabetes such as its incurable property, hereditary transmission, and best effective treatment methods.
We hoped that the information gathered were able to be utilized into some valid, significant, and reliable data for Indonesia’s future in healthcare. We strongly encourage this type of research because of the scarcity of research in Indonesia while on the other hand, Indonesia is a triple burden country with a lot of diseases.
