According to the World Health Organization (WHO), hypertension is a condition where the increase in systolic blood is above the normal limit of more than 140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure of more than 90 mmHg. This condition causes the blood vessels to continue to increase in pressure. Normal blood pressure itself is at a systolic value of 120 mmHg when the heart beats and diastolic value of 80 mmHg when the heart relaxes. If the pressure value crosses that limit, then it can be said that a person’s blood pressure is high. As it is known that blood is carried throughout the body from the heart through the blood vessels. Every time the heart beats to pump blood, blood pressure is created and pushes against the walls of blood vessels (arteries). The higher the blood pressure, the harder the heart will pump blood. Hypertension can present a variety of serious diseases ranging from the heart, kidneys, to the brain. The risk of hypertension itself is currently more common in developing countries that have low incomes. Hypertension itself is known as the “silent killer”, where people who have hypertension don’t have any symptoms at all.
Based on the 2018 National Basic Health Research Report on 658,201 research subjects from all provinces in Indonesia, the prevalence of hypertension according to doctor’s diagnosis in the adult population is 8.36%. This figure is too far from the prevalence of hypertension based on the results of blood pressure measurements which are at 34.11%. These data indicate the high prevalence of hypertension that has not been detected in Indonesian society. The prevalence of hypertension in West Sumatra itself is around 25.1%, the area in West Sumatra with the highest prevalence of hypertension is in Sawahlunto with a case percentage of 33.3%, followed by the second in Tanah Datar at 31.6% and the third in Solok. by 31.2%. Padang City itself occupies the second lowest position with a percentage of 21.7%.
Therefore, SCORE-CIMSA BEM KM FK Unand raised an activity called SGP – FIBER (SCORE Goes Public – Finding Breach Against the Silent Killer). This activity is a SCORE’s research activity with the topic “The Correlation of Vegetable and Fruit Consumption Levels on People’s Blood Pressure in Pauh District, Padang City.
SGP – FIBER consists of four sets of informative and educational activities. The four series of activities are training, questionnaire validation, distributing questionnaires, and recapitulating and processing data which are carried out offline and online. The first series of activities are training and workshops, which will be held on August 21, 2022 online. The training provided was about making questionnaires by Mrs. Zurayya Fadila, SKM, MKM. and training on hypertension and epidemiological conditions in Indonesia and West Sumatra by Mrs. dr. Rita Hamdani, SpJp(K) to active members of SCORE CIMSA-BEM KM FK Unand batch 2020 and 2021. Besides that, there was also a talk show with dr. Rakhmad Hidayat, Sp.S(K), MARS. to talk more about hypertension.
The second series of activities is questionnaire validation carried out by SCORE 2020 and 2021 members. Furthermore, for the third activity is the offline distribution of questionnaires at the Pauh Health Center carried out by active members of SCORE CIMSA-BEM KM FK Unand batch 2020 and 2021. In this activity the members interact directly with the community at the Pauh Health Center to conduct interviews about their blood pressure and consumption levels of vegetables and fruit. The last series of activities is data processing carried out by SCORE members batch 2020 and 2021. The data obtained from the third activity is recapitulated and processed to find a relationship between the level of consumption of vegetables and fruits on a person’s blood pressure.
Through this SGP – FIBER activity, it is hoped that especially SCORE CIMSA-BEM KM FK Unand members will have the knowledge to prepare and carry out research and draw conclusions from the research carried out, namely regarding hypertension which has been studied beforehand through the training that has been given. Hopefully with this activity SCORE members will be more focused in the future when conducting future research such as final project/thesis reports and also have a higher interest in conducting research.
