On September 30 th , 2018, SCORE UR collaborating with SCOPH enact an activity called ALVEOLUS (a! Let’s save our lungs). As a community development, Alveolus aims to measure the prevalence while simultaneously develop the awareness of smoking horrible effects on Marpoyan Damai sub-district masses on Pekanbaru. This activity also acts as a hands-on training on CIMSA UR members language skills toward the masses. Prior to the activity, SCORE – SCOPH committees gather on the nearby Garuda primary healthcare facility to make a final check on all logistics, including the essential tools and human resource.
After ensuring the completeness, committee travel to the head of neighborhood house where the activity will take place. Unfortunately, the commencement of Alveolus was delayed by around 15 minutes due to the
lateness of participants to arrive. However, the committee is glad that the number of participants showing up exceed 10% of the expectation.
The activity was started by an opening speech from the project officer (Ayummi Azzahrah), the head of neighborhood association, and local coordinator. The project officer also seizes the opportunity to explain about the activity including the aim and flow. Alveolus was divided into five station with different activity in each one. The participant has to go through each station in ascending order. Station 1 and 2 consist a questionnaire and interview session where data will be collected with the accompanying SCORE members. Likewise, in the third, fourth, and fifth station, SCOPH members will take a blood pressure and blood sugar measurements.
After going through the stations, participants are gathered again to be given a plenary on smoking, blood pressure, and blood sugar. Simultaneously, participants are given a chance to inquire any mind-bogging questions. Chiefly, Alveolus was then ended on 17.30 local time with distribution of snacks to the participants and a group photo.
