After two years of online exchanges, MSCIA UB has once again held Cultural Day as an offline event. Cultural Day is one of MSCIA’s projects to celebrate the visit of incoming students, where we focus on exchanging cultures between local students and incoming students. This project consisted of two events, these being Cultural Day and Cultural Night.
The purpose of this project was to create a particular day where we can freely exchange each other’s culture in an exciting manner. During Cultural Day, we spent our time in Museum Panji to learn one of Indonesia’s ancient epics, Cerita Panji, therein contains many valuable lessons. In the museum, the incoming students were also able to witness many traditional tools once used by Indonesians, and other historic relics. The museum tour ended with a morning feast for the incoming students.
Then, incoming students continued their day with a visit to Antique Batik where our incoming friends learned to create their very own batik and bring their creation home with them.
Lastly, the day ended with the bread and butter of the event, Cultural Night. All participants, both local students and incoming students, cooked native dishes for all of us to enjoy, and even learned different dances from different countries, such as from Hungary and Poland. Overall, all participants extremely enjoyed the event, and wished that such a similar event would be held next year. Through this event, we hope that cultural understanding between local students and incoming students grows and we all learn to appreciate the values contained within each other’s cultures.
